Can I get a charge-off removed and pull off settling the debt for less than what I owe?
My debt is $2100 with AMEX and I would like to remove my “charge off.” I would like to pay $1260(60% of this debt).
Do you think that AMEX will take this offer and agree to removing the “chrage off” and replace it with “paid as agreed”? Or do you think I should just go ahead and offer the whole amount and ask for the “charge off” removal.
Another detail…. I will have to pay in installments because I cannot afford a lump sum.
At this point Amex probably does not even own your account anymore, as for the charge off it will remain on your credit even if you settle the debt. Once it gets to charge off status you can’t do anything about that. As far as paying off in installments the collection agency wants it in one lump sum. Their thinking is if you ca pay 1260 you can pay the whole amount.
